The Skindancer series is a trilogy of urban fantasy books about
Dakota Frost, a "skindancer" - a magical tattoo artist who can
create tattoos that come to life.
In Dakota's world, magic, long suppressed by its own practicioners,
burst out into the open when it was picked up by the counterculture
movement of the 1960's.
Now, magic is alive in an alternative culture called the Edgeworld,
and Edgeworlders like Dakota apply equal parts skepticism, magic
and attitude to navigate the line where magic and reality meet.
Each book in the series highlights a new form of magic based on
alternative culture practices like tattooing, graffiti or
firespinning, and each highlights a new supernatural creature
like werewolves, vampires and dragons.
The Skindancer series starts with Frost Moon, a period piece set in
late 2006 in an Atlanta not entirely unlike our own...
Skindancer Book 1: Frost Moon
In an alternate Atlanta where vampires and werewolves prowl the night,
magic is real, and tattoo magic is the strongest magic of them all,
a serial killer is targeting the magically tattooed on the full moon.
Dakota Frost, best magical tattooist in the Southeast, learns from the
police she may be a target ... just when she receives a lucrative commission
to ink a magic tattoo for a werewolf before the next full moon.
Caught between the rough and tumble world of the werewolves, the law
and order rules of the vampires, and a sexy man-in-black whose motives
are in doubt, Dakota must tread carefully to survive - because she doesn't
know whether her werewolf client is the tattoo killer ... or the next victim.
Skindancer Book 2: Blood Rock
Things are looking up for Dakota Frost - new child, new house, and new car.
But when vicious magical graffiti begins targeting vampires and werewolves
- starting with her friends - everything starts to fall apart.
As the attacks mount up, so does the mistrust of the vampires, the
werewolves, and even the police, leaving Dakota caught in a triangle of
her ex-girlfriend and a new vampire who may want more than just her blood.
Soon, only one option remains: she must swallow her pride and ask for help.
She must return to her old skindancing mentor. She must return to Blood Rock.
